A Journey from
Darkness to Hope.

Enlighten The Shadows wasn't founded in a boardroom. It started in 2020, with a group of friends realizing that the men around them were suffering in silence.

What began as a local support group has grown into a registered charity that has impacted thousands of lives. We realized that "toughing it out" wasn't working. We needed a new approach—one built on brotherhood, honesty, and professional support.

Founder & Executive Director

I decided to set up a podcast in May 2020 during the first Covid Lockdown. My wife and I lost our baby, and a few days later our step sister to suicide. Whilst waiting for a new job to start, I was left suffering with grief and ill mental health. This led to suicidal ideation for months but I battled to remain focused on the mission: Enlighten The Shadows. Little did I know that within a couple of years it would be a mens mental health charity saving hundreds and hundreds of lives!

Trustee

I am a trustee of ETS because this cause is deeply personal to me. I lost my husband to suicide, and I know first-hand the devastation it leaves behind, not only the grief, but the unanswered questions and the lasting impact on family and friends. After his death, I wanted to do something meaningful with that pain. I wanted to help prevent other families from experiencing the same loss, and to support men to speak openly about their mental health before they reach a point of crisis. Being part of this charity allows me to honour my husband’s memory by working towards change, reducing stigma, encouraging conversation, and helping men access support when they need it most. I am proud to support a charity that takes men’s mental health seriously and works tirelessly to save lives.

Trustee and Volunteer Lead

My name is Nathan, I am a proud Trustee and Volunteer of Enlighten the Shadows. I started of by attending come for a kick about late 2023 and I was privileged to be asked to volunteer in February 2024 and was appointed as a Trustee in 2025. Enlighten the Shadows has supported me through the lowest points of my life and has helped me to build a strong mindset which helps me to support others through their mental health journey. I have created a compassionate and honest approach to support men through their struggles and I am proud to support the charity to support more men in need and to help spread the word that asking for help is not a weakness, it is one of the biggest strength to have in life.

ETS is a crucial charity to me. Men's mental health still remains a taboo and this will only change with awareness, discussion and empathy. As someone in the Arts, I am always exploring emotions and the struggles that we as humans experience, but don't necessarily know how to express or articulate.

It’s safe to say ETS played a huge role in saving my life. ETS gave me a platform and safe space to talk about my mental health without judgement and heard me with kindness and love. I’m so lucky to be apart of ETS and be able to show the same empathy and understanding to others, to say to all men out there that is is ok not to be ok, you are not alone and we are here for you. Mental health is not a weakness, you are not weak, you are strong and together we will beat the stigma around men’s mental health.
